Thompson Has "One of the Best Days of Golf This Year"

Michael Thompson gives a fist pump after a birdie putt.

Continuing his upward momentum, Michael Thompson once again climbed the Q-School leaderboard with a six under par 65 on the Panther Lake course which moved him into a tie for 27th. Posting his best round of the tournament, Thompson had seven birdies and one bogey to move a single shot behind the ultimate goal of Q-School - a 25th or better finish which earns a PGA Tour card for the 2011 season.

Commenting on his round via Twitter, Michael said:

"That was one of the best days of golf I've had this whole year! Let's finish strong this weekend!"

Despite his success today, Michael and his group did have to face some adversity during the back-9 today when they got "put on the clock" which forced then to make each shot within a time limit. Via Twiiter, Michael said

"By the way for everybody's info my group got put on the clock from 14-17. Have you ever heard of anybody being put on the clock at Q-school?"
Despite the time limit, Michael shot one under over those holes.

Tonight, the field will be re-grouped for the final two rounds and this time Michael will be in the lead half of the field which will helpfully earn him some well deserved TV air time. By my reckoning his name appeared on the Golf Channel leaderboard for the first time just after he completed his round with a birdie on the 18th hole right around 3:30pm ET. Unfortunately, there was no video of him due to the fact that the coverage was focused on the Crooked Cat course.

Round 5 of 6 is tomorrow, and will be televised on the Golf Channel between 1-4pm EST. Check your local cable channel listings.
