Good Weekend For University of Alabama Golfers

by Randy Roberts

Michael finished strong at the Memorial Tournament completing the final round with 4 birdies offset by one bogey.  His final round score of -3 left him at -4 overall, vaulting him twelve spots up the leaderboard into a five way tie for 8th.

With a paycheck of just over $167,000 his 2013 earnings have now surpassed last year's total, officially making 2013 his best year on the PGA Tour.  He moved up to 45th on the OWGR list, 22nd on the PGA Tour money list and 23rd on the FedEx Cup list.

Michael's performance on the golf course was not the only great one by an Alabama player this weekend. During his round, the University of Alabama men's golf team was playing in the National Championship.  His wife Rachel (@rvthompson2) tweeted the following
Michael just teed off @MemorialGolf but glued to my phone following NCAA men's golf action. Keeping @MSlickThompson updated! @AlabamaMGolf
When it was all said and done, Alabama came away with their first national championship in golf.
Shoulda seen @MSlickThompson when I told him @AlabamaMGolf won!! Huge smile, loud shout & DOUBLE walking fist pump! @jcwellbamagolf

Congrats to Coach Seawell, the players and everyone else involved with the Alabama golf program. Well earned!
