Thompson Has "Best Day of Golf" of 2011

Chitimacha Louisiana Open - Round 1 Recap

Michael Thompson shot a four under par 67 today at the Nationwide Tour's Chitimacha Louisiana Open.  His round included 6 birdies, 10 pars and 2 bogeys, leaving him tied for fifth after the first 18 holes of the tournament.

As we've seen the past month or two, Thompson's driving distance continues to rise.  Early in his round he was averaging 325 yards!  The long bombs cooled off a little and he ended up averaging 307 yards while hitting 77% of his fairways for the day.  Michael was very pleased with his round and posted on twitter

"Had the best day of golf so far this year today. I love this game! And there's more where that came from!"

He'll be starting the second round two shots back from the leader Rich Barcelo.  His tee time is at 7:40 AM local time (ET).  You can follow his scores here:
