One Last Shot at the FedexCupPlayoffs

This is it.  The last PGA tournament of the year before the FedexCup playoffs begin.  Today in North Carolina, the PGA Tour holds its last regular event of the year at the Wyndham Championship.  After this event, the top 125 on the FedexCup points list will get into the playoffs.

Currently, Michael Thompson sits 145th on that list and in order to guarantee a spot in the playoffs Michael needs to finish 5th or better.  There are other scenarios for him to get in but he'll need a solid top 10 at minimum.

Michael is playing with D.A. Points and K.J. Choi.  They tee off for round 1 at 12:40pm ET.

Thompson In the "Biggest Little City in the World"

Michael Thompson tees off Thursday in Reno, Nevada where he will be competing in the Barracuda Championship.  The Barracuda Championship uses a modified Stableford scoring system which encourages aggressive play and awards positive points for birdies, eagles, and double eagles while subtracting points for bogeys and worse.

The scoring used for the Barracuda Championship is as follows:

• Double Eagle: 8 points
• Eagle: 5 points
• Birdie: 2 points
• Par: 0 points
• Bogey: -1 point
• Double Bogey or more: -3 points

Michael tees off at 1:06pm PT from the tenth hole.  He is paired with Mark Wilson and Jonas Blixt.

Next on Tour: Quicken Loans National

The Quicken Loans National will get underway shortly in Gainesville, Virginia.  The event will be held at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Club for the first time.  Michael Thompson will be playing with Angel Cabrera and Retief Goosen.  They tee off from the first hole at 7:59am ET.

Tour Heads North of the Border

The PGA Tour has moved up to Toronto, Canada for this week's RBC Canadian Open which returns to the Glen Abbey Golf Club.  Michael Thompson will once again be looking to move inside the top 125 on the FedexCup points list and/or the PGA Tour money list.  He currently sits just outside the top 125 on both lists.

Michael tees off from the first hole at 8:00am ET Thursday morning with Charlie Hoffman and Seung-Yul Noh.

Thompson Catches Fire on Back Nine

After nine holes at today's Barbasol Championship in Auburn, Alabama Michael Thompson sat at even par but then caught fire.  He birdied five of the next six holes and climbed the leaderboard quickly.  He finished the day with a four under par 67 and he is currently tied for 8th.

Friday's second round will get underway early for Michael as he tees off at 7:44am.  The early tee time should allow Michael to miss the worst part of the hot Alabama afternoon.
