Mastering the 15th

by Randy Roberts

Michael Thompson had a pretty good first round at the 2013 Masters.  He shot 1 over par including 4 bogeys, 1 birdie and 1 eagle.  He sits T-46th going into round 2.  The cut will be drawn at the top 50 players and anyone within 10 shots of the lead.

The highlight of the day came on the 15th hole, which he famously called a penalty on himself back in 2008.  His approach shot landed about five feet away from the hole.  Gravity, lack of wind, and Newton's Laws of Motion ensured that the ball did not move this time, and he went on to make the eagle putt.

Michael was interviewed by a Tuscon news station after his round, and he sounded pretty pleased.
