Back in the Red

by Roz Roberts III

Yesterday's one over par 72 was Michael Thompson's first round over par at the McGladrey Classic after posting 9 straight sub par rounds so it was a bit of an anomaly, especially since the round included a rare four putt from within birdie range.  Michael shrugged it off in today's third round and bounced back with a solid three under par 67.  He moved up the leader board nine spots and is currently T12, five shots off the lead.

Michael will look to finish strong in tomorrow's final round when he tees of at 12:00pm ET with Rory Sabbatini.

Moving Day at Sea Island

Michael had a scrappy round 2. An early double bogey (he started on 10) had him giving up some ground and he spent the rest of the day trying to catch up. The day ended on a positive note with a birdie on 9, +1 for the day.

Michael has already teed off for round 3 at Sea Island. Today he's grouped with Ken Duke and Steven Alker.

It was deja vu all over again during the first round of the McGladry Classic for Michael Thompson.
He's competed in the McGladrey three times and he has shot 65 in the first round every time.  Today's 65 has him tied for first.

Today's round was highlighted by a red hot putter.  He drained birdies from long range including one from from 19' 11" and another from 40'5".  He was +3.517 in strokes gained putting on the day.

Michael will look to keep the mojo going in Friday's second round.  He'll once again be playing with Boo Weekly and Nick Watney.  The trio will tee off from the tenth hole at 12:45pm ET.

A Little Closer to Home

by Roz Roberts III

Michael Thompson will be making his third consecutive start in the new PGA Tour season.  He missed the cut in the first two events but he'll be looking to turn that around at the McGladry Classic in Sea Island, Georgia.  Not only will he be closer to home but he's had success at the McGladrey the two previous times he has competed in this tournament.  He finished third in 2011 and tied for tenth in 2012.  He has shot under par in all eight rounds he's played at the McGladrey.

Michael will be playing with Boo Weekly and Nick Watney for the first couple of rounds.  They tee off their first round at 8:15am ET from the first hole.

Let the 2014/2015 Season Begin!

by Randy Roberts

The Frys.com tournament signifies the start of the 2014/2015 season and Michael Thompson is not wasting any time by playing in the first event.

With his two year exemption expiring at the end of the year, he may be eyeing this tournament as an opportunity to get a head start on his 5th season.  He'll be teeing off at 12:55pm PST and will be grouped with Steven Bowditch and Vijay Singh.

Rob Bolton is expecting good things from him and picked him as a "Sleeper Pick" this week
