Blistering First Nine Has Thompson Tied for Fifth

by Roz Roberts III

Michael Thompson's first round at the Zurich Classic got off to a great start when he birdied the first two holes.  It turns out that Michael was just getting warmed up.

That first pair of back-to-back birdies would be first of four pairs of them over the day including three during his first nine holes alone.  At the end of the day, Michael posted a six under par 66 and is tied for fifth going into Friday's second round.

His first nine holes (the back nine on the course) were nearly flawless as he scored six birdies and three pars and he had birdie looks at the three holes he parred.  He had a little more trouble on the front nine where he bogeyed two holes but he finished his round the way he started it - with back-to-back-birdies.

Michael will once again be playing with D.A. Points and Boo Weekly in round two.  They will tee off from the first hole at 8:40am ET (7:40am local time)
